Nice ice system
If you are looking to make ice balls for cocktails or even just to have for water bottles this is a easy to use unit.
Using it is very straight forward, I simply cycled it once and threw out the first batch of ice, then refilled it. It is about as plug and play as it gets.
The machine makes about 2 ice cubes every hour or so and the ice balls are around 1.5" in size, which is great for cocktails or spirits on the rock. I add water to mine before bed and let it run overnight when eletrcitiy is cheaper. When I wake in the morning, the ice is full and I add it to my collection in the freezer. The ice lasts longer than cube ice thanks to lower surface area and it fits in most water bottles, as long as it is a wide mouth on top.
It is a pretty quite system, running about hte same noise level as a fridge. The loudest is when the ice comes crashing down, but they have inclduyed a silicone sleeve for the tray which helps to reduce the impact noise of ice on plastic. They have thought a lot about the user experience and made some nice modifications to make it easy to use. It is a very functional machine and does exactly what it says it will do.
As far as the value for money, it is a bit expensive. At the time of this review it was$549, but it had a coupon that brought it down below $400, which makes it a better value. I guess it all comes down to how much you actually want round ice.
BTW my ice is not clear, but if you were to use purified water or distilled water, you can probably get as close to clear as possible.
